Cherai Beach is around 30 kms away from Cochin city & railway station and around 35 kms away from Cochin International Airport (other direction)
The 15 km long golden Beach is very clean, shallow and is ideal for swimming, surfing and sunbathing. The newly beautified main beach has a walkway and High mask lamps which make the beach enjoyable even at night. Trained security staff are present round-the-clock in the beach. The Beach is safe and tourists of all age groups can enjoy the Beach alike.
The place is a unique combination of sea and backwaters rimmed by lush green coconut palms and paddy fields. The backwaters are a combination of lakes, lagoons, canals and estuaries. The main attraction of Cherai is the ‘Poyil’ a large inland lake forming a part of the calm serene backwaters separated from the ocean by only a narrow sandbar.
Other attraction Munabam beach is situated at the northern end of Cherai Beach (2 kms) where the River Periyar flows into the Arabian Sea. It is a perfect place to sit and enjoy the views, and watch local fishermen in their traditional canoes and colourful boats. The stunning sunset forms the classic backdrop and provides marvelous inspiration to any keen photographer.
